DARKROOMS, A Story
2022

In May 2022, I wrote DARKROOMS, an essay in which I narrate the journey, and my journey, through photography. Questioning the nature of the medium, from the earlier pioneers, like August Sander, who worked their craft in their darkrooms to today, the so-called digital age.

Those writings were the starting point of an on-going series of artworks, or photographs which I worked in the modern darkroom, that is the computer. Taking as source material some photographs I took between 2012 and 2017, I began to create new images and a series of fantasies or stories. Also, I ended up creating a collection of short films, which I see as a natural extension of photography, that is cinema.

For DARKROOMS, A Story I utilised photographs taken in 2012 with the model Vasilisa Forbes. I printed those photographs and worked on them with a knife, glue, charcoal pen and acrylic. The resulting work is a series of mixed media artworks and one of a kind artist book.
